Equipment donation as a reuse pathway
Not every redundant device needs to be sold or recycled. Suitable working technology can sometimes have more value in continued educational use. ITRecycle supports donation pathways for appropriate equipment to schools in Cambodia, Thailand and Sri Lanka.
Companies can specifically request that eligible equipment be considered for donation when submitting an asset list.
What equipment may be suitable?
Laptops and desktop computers are generally the most practical donation candidates because they are useful, relatively easy to transport and can support classroom or administrative use. Suitability depends on working condition, age, specification, completeness and practical shipping considerations.
Donation is not automatic
Every device is assessed individually or as part of a lot. Equipment that is too old, incomplete, damaged or uneconomic to transport may not be suitable for donation. In those cases, buyback, local reuse or recycling may be more appropriate.
Data must be addressed first
Donated equipment should not carry your organisation’s business data. Tell us how data-bearing assets are to be handled and ensure an appropriate data process is agreed before equipment is released for donation.
